Jubuliant Assemblyman Araujo tells Decision Day crowd to stay engaged By NELSON ARAUJO Nevada State Assemblyman (These remarks were from Assemblyman Nelson Araujo at The Center’s Decision Day Rally on Friday, June 26, 2015.) Earlier today we witnessed history with our very own eyes. In a 5-4 vote, the Supreme Court of the United States ruled that same-sex marriage is now legal in all 50 states! This historic moment would not have been possible without our community’s courage and tenacity to fight for equality. Time after time, our community would face attacks, but we proved that love knows no barriers and in the end, love won! We celebrate this tremendous victory now, but we all must get ready to put our bootstraps back on and continue fighting for full equality! We must work to implement policies that protect our youth from being targeted simply for being who they are. We must continue to advance non-discrimination laws. We must continue to advance policies that protect all Nevadans in the workplace. Lastly, we need to focus on making changes to our adoption, foster care, and health system. Undoubtedly, we still have a lot of work to do. However, history has shown that when we work together, we can truly overcome any barriers that are placed in our way. Your legislative friends and allies are ready to get to work once again, but we will need your help. We cannot do this alone, so please stay engaged in the political process, hold your representatives accountable, and make sure they know that you are not done fighting yet. Together, we can reach full equality!
